At RETR, we’re always working to help you build better relationships and grow your network. One of the most-requested features we've added is the ability to search for newly licensed loan officers—so you can be the first to reach out and potentially start a career-long connection.
Where to Find Newly Licensed Loan Officers
-
Navigate to the Mortgage section of RETR.
-
Select “Loan Officers” from the options.
-
Click on the “Newly Licensed LOs” filter to get started.
Example: Finding New LOs in Virginia
Let’s walk through an example using Virginia as the state:
-
Use the filters to select Virginia as your state.
-
Set the license date filter to “Last 30 days.”
-
RETR will now display loan officers licensed to work in Virginia within that time frame.
-
In our example, there were 759 new LOs in the last 30 days.
-
Filtering Out Federally Registered LOs
Some loan officers may be federally registered—meaning they can work in any state and might not be tied to your local market. To narrow down your list:
-
Use the “Bank Type” filter.
-
Exclude federally registered LOs to focus on state-specific professionals.
In our Virginia example, removing federally registered loan officers brought the list down to 83.
Finding LOs Without Company Sponsorship
Want to connect with loan officers who are not yet affiliated with a company?
-
Use the “Sponsorship” filter.
-
Select “Not Sponsored” to find individuals who are currently unaffiliated.
In Virginia, this revealed 6 newly licensed loan officers not yet working with a brokerage—prime candidates for outreach.
Getting in Touch
When a loan officer is not yet affiliated, the phone number listed is typically their personal cell phone—making it easier to connect directly.
-
Click on their profile to view the NMLS details.
-
Confirm their licensing status.
-
Use the LinkedIn search button to quickly check out their professional background before reaching out.
Example: One user clicked on Dane Franta, confirmed his license wasn’t affiliated, then used LinkedIn to learn he might be transitioning into a mortgage career—making it a great time to start a conversation.
Tips for Outreach
-
Look for recent posts or career changes on LinkedIn for additional context.
-
Use area codes to identify local versus out-of-state contacts.
-
Reach out early—new LOs may be exploring options and open to guidance.
